We are Denver’s staycation destination! Our campground is privately owned and offers a mountain camping experience within an hour of the Denver metro area. Elevation 9,230. We have 8 tent sites, 19 RV sites and 13 camping cabins available. We are only 20 minutes from Golden and 10 minutes from the casinos of Central City and Black Hawk. Golden Gate Canyon State Park is three miles away. Spend the day hiking or fishing and come back to Base Camp at Golden Gate Canyon to enjoy the rest of your evening. Base Camp (formerly Dory Hill Campground) is under new ownership as of May 1, 2014. We are already making improvements. The store was remodeled within the first three weeks and the grocery services were expanded. The liquor store (Pickle Liquors) has been moved inside the main building. The laundry room has been remodeled and is open for business. We are actively working on bringing gas services back.

WILDLIFE: On any given day, you might be delighted by a moose, deer or elk sighting. The delightful buzz of hummingbirds can be heard frequently throughout the grounds. GILPIN COUNTY COMMUNITY CENTER: The Gilpin County Community Center is across the street and up the road a short distance from the campground. The center is home to a swimming pool with a water slide and other fun water features. This is a great option for family fun during the middle of the day. CASINOS: Our campground is located only a few minutes from the casinos of Black Hawk and Central City. This is a great option for adult entertainment. PEAK TO PEAK SCENIC BYWAY: Do you ride? The Peak to Peak Highway showcases some of the most beautiful scenery in Colorado. Take a trip over to Estes Park and back. You will not be disappointed. BASEBALL/SOFTBALL FIELDS:Pete Gones Memorial Park is right next to our campground. Weber Field and Elk Field always have local baseball, softball and soccer games for you to enjoy watching for free. Base Camp at Golden Gate Canyon is a proud sponsor of Little League! GOLDEN GATE CANYON STATE PARK: If you are looking for a place to go fishing or hiking, the State Park is just three miles from Base Camp at Golden Gate Canyon. Take your family out for the day and enjoy all the park has to offer. Panorama Point offers an up close and personal, breathtaking view of the continental divide. Hunting, picnicking and mountain bike riding are other activities the State Park has to offer.

FROM DENVER/GOLDEN: Take I-70 West to Hwy 58 West to US Hwy 6 West. Take US Hwy 6 West up Clear Creek Canyon to CO Hwy 119. Go North on CO Hwy 119, through Black Hawk, to approximately mile marker 12.5 and turn right onto CO Hwy 46 (Golden Gate Canyon Rd.). We are less than half a mile down CO Hwy 46 on the left. Turn left into the campground just past the ball fields. FROM GRAND JUNCTION/IDAHO SPRINGS: Take I-70 East to US Hwy 6 East via Exit 244 on the left. Turn left onto CO Hwy 119 North. Take Hwy 119 North to approximately mile marker 12.5 and turn right onto CO Hwy 46 (Golden Gate Canyon Rd.). We are less than half a mile down CO Hwy 46 on the left. Turn left into the campground just past the ball fields.
