Things to Do When Visiting Mclure
The Pinegrove camp site is located in beautiful picturesque forest land in the heart of Mclure, thirty miles north of Kamloops and 14 miles south of Barriere in the heart of British Columbia. When visiting the campsite you’ll find plenty to keep you occupied, such as nature trails where you can spot incredible wildlife, wonderful rivers for fishing and a scenic spot for your RV where you can relax, unwind, and live a much slower pace of life for a few days. But if you’re looking to explore further and see the sights of British Columbia during your vacation then the Pinegrove campsite is the perfect place to set up your basecamp. Here are some fun things to do in or around Mclure to keep you occupied for the duration of your stay:
Visit the North Thompson Museum
If you’re interested in learning more about the rich history of the area then a visit to the North Thompson Museum is an absolute must. The museum was opened in 1987 and is located in downtown Barriere. Here you’ll find local artefacts and documents that will cover the whole of the North Thompson region. The museum also has a photograph collection of over 150 photographs, showcasing images of scenes, people and industry in the local area. Barriere is a relatively small town and 75% of the town's residents are either directly employed by or otherwise linked to forestry, making it the perfect place to discover more about the history of forestry and the lives of those that have been employed in the industry for the past several hundred years. Another great reason to visit the museum is that it is housed in a former BC Forest Service Ranger Station, meaning the building itself is a site of historical interest.
Book Yourself a Tee Time...or some Ski Time...
The Chinook Cove Golf Course is located just outside of Barriere and offers a beautiful, Championship length and quality 9 hole golf course. The perfectly manicured well-kept greens provide an interesting contrast to the raw and unkempt beauty of the forests surrounding the course, making the Chinook Cove Golf Course a must visit attraction for golf fans in the area. The course also offers a licensed restaurant, aptly named ‘The Nineteenth Hole’ which means that you could book a tee time and enjoy a meal afterwards, turning your golfing excursion into a full day out before you return back to the comfort of your RV and the Pinegrove campsite.
Golf might not be your thing, if that's the case then why not think about paying Sun Peaks Resort a visit? It’s less than forty five minutes drive away and is one of the best ski resorts around. However, if you’re there in summer, there’s still plenty to do as it’s one of the best outdoor resorts around – with plenty of options if you like mountain biking. In August the blossom festival is a beautiful sight to behold and for those of you that like music or entertainment, there are plenty of concerts – check the website for updates! Sunpeaks Resort
Fabulous Fishing
If you enjoy fishing then there is no better vacation destination than Mclure and the Pinegrove campsite. Fishing is one of the favorite local pastimes in the area, and there are over 100 world class fishing areas in the vicinity. There are plenty of locations close to the campsite where you can try your hand at freshwater fishing: due to the remoteness of many of these destinations, it’s best to bring your own fishing equipment with you if you have it. Otherwise, we will be able to direct you to the nearest available tackle shop for you to hire your rods and buy your bait. The remoteness of the best fishing locations also means its a good idea to ensure you have a good health insurance policy, just in case something happens while you're on or by the water. For the very best fishing in the area take the short journey south to Kamloops. If you want to stay as close to the campsite as possible then you can also enjoy some rainbow trout fishing right here in Mclure at the Badger Lake.
Enjoy The Wildlife
The beauty of a vacation in Mclure is that you can take a step back and get closer to nature. With wildlife literally on our doorstep, there’s nowhere more perfect for some good old fashioned nature spotting. In our surrounding high elevation forests you may be able to spot moose, boreal owls, singing hermit thrush and dozens of other different birds. There is also a large population of chattering red squirrels. You may also see tiny spade foot toads, families of beautiful badgers, dancing sharp-tailed grouse, bighorn sheep, cougars, red foxes, coyotes and bears. All of these animals are part of the varied population of Mclure, and they all help to make this a truly wonderful and fascinating place to visit.
